'Pig Life Crisis'
16 May 2024 30s
The whole hog.
by Andrew MacGregor

If you thought a mid-life crisis was bad, get a load of the pig life crisis in iSelect's new commercial. Protagonist Mary wants to save money on household bills, but not use a price comparison website. The grunt work causes her to miss Pilates, a dinner date with mum, and—worst of all—her husband's distinctive descent into madness.

The viewer sees it before she does: guinea pigs as far as the eye can see. Toys, plates, cushions, paintings… you name it, he's bought them. He even looks like a guinea bag with a haircut that must be seen to be believed. Mary's reaction as she inspects the damage is priceless.

The worst part is she could have avoided it... all she had to do was let iSelect do the hard work for her. Even if viewers have no immediate use for the brand, it reminds them to keep an eye on spouses of a, erm, certain age.
