Raise the roof. | |
by Andrew MacGregor | |
|
The weather tried and failed to dampen the spirits of those involved in this Barclays Women’s Super League/Championship spot. Despite the drizzle, representatives of twenty-three clubs meet on the roof of a multi-storey car park to play a game of keepy-uppy. The sun threatens to break through at one point, but the clouds are a solid defensive unit. Back on the empty roof, there’s a red-blue split that works rather well. The blues (Chelsea, Manchester City, Portsmouth, etc) have the high ground à la Obi Wan Kenobi, while the reds (Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United, and such) take the level below. A concrete kickabout’s all well and good, but you can tell everyone wants to get back on the pitch.
