Hug a hoodie.
by Andrew MacGregor

Vanish won the 2022 Diversity in Advertising Award with a pitch that led to 'Me, My Autism, and I'. A year after that remarkable film launched, we have two new commercials about the spectrum condition from agency Havas London, with Tubby Brother now in the director's chair.

This 60" spot focuses on Lani, a South Asian teenager who almost plays a character to fit in. She copies what other people do, aware that society was not designed for those with autism. When it all gets too much, she retreats into the hood of her favourite top.

This triggers a brief, gorgeous shift from live action to animation, as Lani describes her "little cocoon" made of cotton and polyester. Her mum knows how important this item of clothing is to her, and so do the brand. That's why they promise to help make this distinctive hoodie—and other comfort objects like it—last longer.
