Snickers
'Own Goal'
26 March 2024 20s
Shear bad luck.
by Andrew MacGregor

Snickers and Russell Bates go back a long way. Remember 'Divas' with Joan Collins and Stephanie Beecham? Bates directed that in 2012, and he's back with a 20" commercial set in a barber shop. When a customer turns round to watch a goal on the TV, he gets more off the side than expected.

Fresh off a stint in the Nando's kitchen, Bukayo Saka is now an apprentice barber with little sympathy for the absent-minded protagonist. "That's an own goal, my friend," says the Arsenal and England forward (though he's more of a sweeper here). He's not wrong, but it's not great customer service either.

The older and wiser Luka Modric of Real Madrid and Croatia offers the man a Snickers instead, as nougat, caramel, peanuts, and milk chocolate are always the answer to life's problems. Maybe that's how the barber gets his tip in the end.
