'Do Your Thing'

Stay and cosplay.
by Andrew MacGregor

Premier Inn are the latest brand to tap into cosplay—or costume play if you're not into the whole brevity thing. To the strains of a cover of 'It's Your Thing' by the Isley Brothers, the ad revolves around a group of cosplayers who stay at the same hotel. They, erm, stand out from the crowd, that's for sure.

Robots, superheroes, sorcerers, and extraterrestrial statesmen mingle with the more traditional clientele (families, business travellers, et cetera). The costumed cast have little to say, as it goes, but the earnest and colourful outfits already speak volumes.

This lets viewers put themselves in the characters' shoes/boots/alien feet. It also leads to some cute, non-verbal interactions, like when a silver woman squares up to a bloke in balloon armour. Do opposites attract? Premier Inn like to think so.
