Dua's a director in training | |
by Melissa Roberts | |
|
This Porsche commercial shows us two things: all the things an electric model of their cars can do, and the importance of sticking to your day job. While it's not actually ‘written and directed by Dua Lipa’ that’s its premise, and the singer takes us through the myriad ways she would show off the car’s capabilities, were she to be given free rein of the creative. The real director is Clement Durou (We Are From LA), and he is in fact, very good at his day job. He captures some endearing moments of Dua Lipa being committed to the bit of pretending to drive a race car, much like a little kid would. And artfully brings to life her wild ideas about running (driving) with wild horses, on the moon, after being a runaway bride who escapes zombies during a car chase. Obviously the vision is purposefully OTT and chaotic. But by the end of watching the singer’s endless list of things she ‘would’ include actually play out, there’s a slight sense of relief that this is just a single, and there’s not a whole album of this (admittedly iconic) collaboration.
