Nike's Jordan Brand
'Barbershop/Handshake'

Get a move on.
by Andrew MacGregor

Directors Jonny & Will have always felt inanimate objects are capable of so much more. It's why they fell in love with puppetry, with Nike the latest brand to benefit. Made for the Chinese market, these ads show how malleable Air Jordan sneakers can be in the right hands.

The first spot, 'Barbershop', eschews scissors for brushes, pipe cleaners, and cotton buds held by shoelaces. The second, 'Handshake', shows how trainers greet each other on the street. At 15" a pop, neither commercial outstays its welcome.

Air Jordans are the focal point, of course, but a lot of effort has gone into the set design as well (the chairs are made for products, not people, while some buildings resemble shoeboxes stacked on top of each other). Plenty of skills and soul (sole?) on display here.
