NBA 2K
'Ball Over Everything'
28 August 2024 86s
Friendly competition.
by Andrew MacGregor

The 'NBA 2K' series has become the only game in town almost by default. The last 'NBA Live' game published and developed by EA Sports was released in 2018, with 2K Games and Visual Concepts happy to reap the rewards. So what can fans expect from 2K25 (apart from more micro-transactions)?

Well, there'll be no friendlies or exhibition games, that’s for sure. Commercial director Max Malkin imagines a world where players apologise to each other, insist that the opposition wins the tip-off, and A'ja Wilson shares the Player of the Year trophy with everyone. It’s basketball, Jim, but not as we know it.

Before fans lose interest, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Derrick White of the Boston Celtics remember that basketball is a contact sport. Such competitive zeal is what the game wants to replicate on PS5—other consoles are available, but the ball seems to be in Sony's court.
