Hair we go.
by Andrew MacGregor

Based between Los Angeles and Chengdu, China, Ben Mullinkosson directs this bittersweet film about Longsheng, a village where women grow their hair to spectacular lengths. Eighteen-year-old Shutong is about to have her locks cut for the last time, after which she leaves the village and lets her hair grow and grow and grow.

The bond between Shutong and her grandmother is well-drawn, but we have no idea what this has to do with Midea, the appliance manufacturer whose name appears at the end. Do the company want to hire everyone who leaves Longsheng? Maybe someone on the board has a hair fetish and wants to get close to the source.
