'Dive In'
9 July 2024 90s
In your face.
by Andrew MacGregor

What's done is done—HBO Max are now just Max. It's… a choice, that's for sure, but the new name does take less time to read. Maybe the brand just want to help viewers in a rush. Before DAVID clutches at any more straws, how do agency BigSmall and director Adam Berg kick off this new era?

The answer is your classic 'viewer gets closer to his/her favourite shows than ever before' tale, with well-staged nods to 'House of the Dragon', the Paris 2024 Olympics, and the 'Harry Potter' series. The protagonist comes face to face with a Boy Who Lived, though he's more of a placeholder on a broomstick.

The standout moment comes when the viewer lands in the pool at the aquatics centre, only for Berg and his crew to flip the whole scene. She clings onto a lane divider for a few seconds, but the only way home to her partner with the obligatory bowl of popcorn is down.
