Liquid I.V.
'Hydra Boost'
10 May 2024 83s
Reach for the sky.
by Andrew MacGregor

Liquid I.V. (not Liquid IV, the fourth instalment in the Liquid saga) want to help water achieve its full potential. Sure, it hydrates people, but does it hydrate people? To ensure that it does, the brand have made electrolyte drink mixes known as "hydration multipliers". Now that's how you get gamers invested!

The brand then asked agency Anomaly and directors Julien & Quentin to translate this benefit on screen. Both parties went above and beyond, so to speak, with a commercial inspired by water-propelled jet packs. When a woman drinks her lemon and lime draught, H₂O gushes from under her feet and launches her into the air.

Julien & Quentin run—sorry, fly—with the concept from start to finish. The protagonist soars over palm trees, buildings, and pedestrians, though one passer-by gets a light afternoon shower to cool him down after work. Those windscreen wipers are a nice touch.

Another drinker—a hiker in the middle of the desert—offers a change of scenery, before both wind up at the same party. This all suggests the product is for work, play, and anything in-between, as the brand target those who work up a seismic thirst.
