‘Football. But French’ is the official line from Ligue 1, and this ad for the league features ‘The Frenchies’ showing a cynical British football fan that there’s more to their version of the beautiful game than he’s initially willing to believe. Directing duo Adrien & Roman have crafted an epic French odyssey (and DAVID takes no responsibility for arguments in the comments). A cameo from Thierry Henry caps a sensational barrage of special effects which augment the highly stylised approach. There's always a danger when something is this loaded with quirkiness that coherence will be lost along the way but the directors expertly keep their grip on the rudder and the overall impact is both incredible and persuasive.
