Kasabian
'Darkest Lullaby'
26 June 2024 3 mins 27s

DAVID watched the music video for 'Vlad the Impaler' on repeat back in the day. He loved the grindhouse giallo take on Vlad III, directed by Ricardo Elfio (Richard Ayoade) and starring Roman Tarasov (Noel Fiedling) as the titular tyrant. Fifteen years later, Kasabian return to the rough-and-ready aesthetic for 'Darkest Lullaby'.

Frontman Serge Pizzorno plays a private investigator in way over his head. Gun battles, torture, oversized collars… "It's all in the game," Pizzorno sings, before his character meets a bloody end. In an oh-so meta twist, the 'director' yells "Cut" and threatens to put Stanley Kubrick to shame with the number of retakes.

We like how frustrated Pizzorno gets, but it will all be worth it if the band's eighth album (the second as Kasabian Mk II, in the parlance of Spinal Tap) is a success.
