KFC
'Moving Day'
1 July 2024 60s
The new kind of health insurance claim.
by Melissa Roberts

An entire Canadian province moving house on the same day sounds like a chaotically thumbs down situation, but this KFC spot gets two thumbs up. July 1st is Moving Day, or jour du déménagement, in Quebec where it was previously law (now tradition) for residential leases to begin.

The wincing induced by the sight of digits scraping against door frames and being crushed under furniture during the laborious task of moving, is given a satisfying payoff with the idea of “finger lickin’ injury claims”. It’s not just director Sam Hughes’s cast of hands doing some heavy lifting, with the sound design by Eggplant Collective proving that the ‘classical score interspersed with beats of SFX’ approach is tried and true for a reason.

It’s an innovative way to reimagine the client’s slogan for the target audience, and the ad’s logic holds beyond those borders too, as it’s perhaps universally agreed that nothing other than takeaways is the only end to a long moving day.
