Most of the time, SAD stands for seasonal affective disorder. When Jade Thirlwall rocks up, it means "slow, angelic, dramatic"... and that is great news for everyone. The SAD interpretation of 'Angel of My Dreams', Thirlwall's debut solo song, does what it says on the tin and much more besides. Dressed like Miss Havisham in a run-down concert hall, Thirlwall turns balladeer with consummate ease. Her voice fills the room as lyrics like "Got you a car, got you a house/Got you a suit, it's Gucci" and "Love when you call me a star/You let me down in the dark" threaten to go stratospheric. Only the roof stops them from doing so. On the stage, Thirlwall is lit to a tee by directors Theo Adams, Sophie Muller, and DP Joel Honeywell, all of whom got the SAD memo and ran with it. As the dust settles and the blue sparkles evaporate, we catch of a glimpse of her 'audience': the brutish manager from the original video. If SAD makes money, he's happy.
