'Crayola for Creativity'

Revisit the classics.
by Andrew MacGregor

Forty years ago, Crayola thought it would be a good idea to collect children's artwork (with families' permission, we hope). "Who knows," said one employee. "We might be able to make a six-and-a-half-minute commercial out of it one day!" Thanks to directors Aqsa Altaf and John X Carey, the long game has paid off.

With the help of friends, family, and former teachers, the ad reunites the now grown-up artists with their masterpieces. They may not be of interest to the likes of Christie's and Sotheby's, but they are priceless works of art in their own way. Now that the artists have children of their own, will they pass on the spark and boost Crayola's bottom line?
