Circle
'Open Money'
18 June 2024 60s
USDC FYI.
by Andrew MacGregor

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, Dogecoin, Solana… welcome back to the weird and wonderful world of cryptocurrency, where everyone's guaranteed to have a whale of a time. Just be careful not to trip over the corpse of FTX—we thought someone would have removed it by now.

Focus instead on this ad for Circle, developers of the USD Coin (USDC). Many people take the internet for granted these days, but not Circle. They think it's the best thing since sliced bread, as it lets people order sliced bread whenever they want! Other items, like signet rings and mangoes, are available.

Money still makes the world go round, though, so the brand have developed a currency "with all the benefits of the open internet", like speed and accessibility. Circle talk a good game, but then so does every financial technology company.

It helps then to have a couple of directors like Pau Suris and Pau Dalmases (aka Pensacola) on the case. Their world is slick, productive, and egalitarian with USDC at the heart of it. Maybe life would be better if transactions appeared on buildings and popped out of thin air.
