Heaven scent. | |

This Auto Trader commercial deserves the Smell-O-Vision treatment. Directed by Glenn Kitson, it centres around that new car smell, an industrial odour up there with paint and fuel (DAVID used to work in a petrol station, so you could say he got high on his own supply). But enough about that—let's focus on the drivers who love a smeller's market. Those first few moments in a new car are sacrosanct—a chance to breathe it all in before they go. Peel off the screen protector, play about with the buttons, get a whiff of leather, plastics, and textiles... it will never be this new again, after all, so go nuts in park. It would have been easy for Kitson to go overboard here, but he nails the quiet satisfaction that a new car delivers, complemented by Sam Robson's tactile sound design. God help the passenger who spills a drink or breaks wind first.
