The beast is back.
by Andrew MacGregor

When DAVID and his family went to theme parks, his older, taller brother always got to go on the roller coasters. All DAVID could do was just stand back and watch. "It's not fair!" he'd shout, but that was drowned out by the screams of those on the roller coaster.

One of the rides that always stood out was Nemesis at Alton Towers. The idea was that an alien creature had been discovered in rural Staffordshire of all places, so the military used over 700m of steel track used to pin it down. That did the trick from 1994 to 2022, when the ride was closed for refurbishment.

Now known as Nemesis Reborn, the roller coaster leans into its sci-fi horror background with this spooky commercial. As soon as we meet the protagonist—a security guard who whistles 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' like a true company man—we know he’s a goner. Still, it's fun to watch him explore the remnants of Nemesis with his flashlight.

For those who are terrified of roller coasters, his fate is worse than death. Thrill-seekers, on the other hand, will be delighted to enter beast mode again.
