'Fighting HIV for Forty Years'

Forty years and counting.
by Jason Stone

The American comedian George Burns, who eventually died at the age of 100 once famously said that “growing old was better than the alternative“, and this tender French commercial for a charity which has been helping people fight against the stigma of HIV for forty years is routed in the same idea.

The prognosis for those living with HIV in the west has improved exponentially over the past four decades, and that is - in part – thanks to the efforts of charities like Aides, and it’s quite right that they congratulate themselves for the role they’ve played.

No one will know better than they do that this fight is not yet over, and there is more to be done to improve medical outcomes and continue to destigmatise diagnoses of HIV.
