A music teacher once told João Rito and Diogo Abrantes: “If being out of tune killed, you would be intergalactic serial killers." Now known as the Martians, the Portuguese duo pay tribute to their late mentor with this Young Director Award film. First, Rito and Abrantes lull viewers into a false sense of serenity with a performance of Edvard Grieg's 'Morning Mood'. Just as the school-aged cast get into their stride, the Nordic peace is shattered by a rogue violin and its mischievous owner. Inspired by horror movies like 'Nosferatu' she revels in the dark side of classical music. Her teacher's unsure at first, but soon realises how beautiful violin stabs can be—with the right encouragement, she'll chill many a spine with her talent.
