|From city boy to mountain man.
At one point in this gorgeous documentary for luggage brand Yeti, veteran rock climber Conrad Anker says: "We get to where we are in life through people." When Malik Martin met Anker by chance in Memphis, Tennessee, it was the start of a beautiful friendship that took Martin places he never expected to go.
This includes rural Montana, where Anker puts Martin through his paces and shows him the ropes, both literal and metaphorical. The more time they spend together, the more similarities become apparent ("Conrad lost all of his homies in the mountains, and I lost all my homies in the hood").
Both are easy to root for, whether it's Anker with his "mountain dad" energy or Martin with his desire to help other Black people reach new heights. When Anker's protégé completes his transformation from city boy to mountain man, it's a wonderful moment that directors Max Lowe and Christopher Murphy let us savour.
