Stop! Farrell time. | |
by Andrew MacGregor | |

Agency Wunderman Thompson and director Tom Hooper take us back to 1980s Wigan, where Andy Farrell got his first taste of rugby league. His father, Peter, tells him: "When you're playing out there today, with those boys out there? Depend on them like family." The emphasis he puts on 'family' is stronger than Andrew Porter. It does the trick though, as young Andy delivers the first of many team talks to come: "Listen, lads! We need to play like brothers today." He continues his speech as a bigger, hairier, and more decorated adult, only now it's to the Ireland national rugby union team. The Vodafone ad coincides with Farrell’s own parental outburst, as son Owen endures a nightmarish build-up to the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Not that Ireland fans will give two hoots about an opposition player!
