Chatham-born Erin Doyle (aka Venbee) condenses years of hurt and frustration into 'Gutter', a 2'15" rap sheet inspired by teenage turmoil and adult acceptance. "I should be dead in a gutter by now/Should be six feet under," Doyle raps, surprised that she made it past family trauma, relapses, and lockdown. She may have Jools Holland's seal of approval, as well as a healthy legion of fans, but Doyle insists she's just "winging it", hopeful that it "don't go to shit" anytime soon. It would be a shame if it did, as her sharp writing and assured delivery demand to be heard. As for the promo, a charged-up Doyle does her bit for local businesses, performing in front of Ken’s Garden, Chatham Express, Dissco Carpets, et cetera. Wherever the bucket hat-loving rapper's career takes her, Doyle knows where she came from.
