Since the Revolutionary War and gaining independence, America has been unrelentingly obsessed with its military might. This bombastic campaign for army recruitment seeks to make such a career look attractive to a new generation, so digs into the past in order to influence its future. Actor Jonathan Majors is a focal point throughout the action, as he marches through historical scenes while delivering a stirring speech about the army's history. The American Revolution and World Wars are safe to show cinematically rendered snippets of, though its not insignificant that the likes of Vietnam and Iraq are skipped in favour of sponsored sports games and hurricane relief. It's intriguing work which starts from an interesting place, but quickly peters out when it conspicuously refuses to go anywhere near a conflict in which Team America might not actually have been the good guys. With recruitment falling as a more nuanced understanding of global politics becomes readily available, eventually they'll have to face up to a checkered history if they want to keep a young audience onside.
