'Come Play Around'
17 August 2023 60s
The gloves are on.
by Andrew MacGregor

This Topgolf commercial reminds DAVID of when Feathers McGraw wore a red rubber glove on his head in 'The Wrong Trousers'. Agency Anomaly New York and director duo The Sacred Egg go even further and replace every human cast member's head with a golf glove.

You can tell that Ed Kaye, Alex Mavor, and The Mill had a field day in the glove department, if you will. Each mitten is colourful, chunky, and computer-generated, but it's the human body language that charms the most (one crosses its fingers after a wayward drive, while a member of staff gestures from inside a ball collection cart).

It's a far cry from traditional golf ranges, and that's how the brand like it. Coupled with an oh-so-cheeky tagline ("Come play around"), the ad emphasises self-expression over stroke play.
