Last year, Merman produced a series of films to promote the Booker Prize shortlist. All eyes are now on the International Booker Prize, with a new bunch of celebrities in a literary mood. First up (and in full colour) is actor and comedian Aisling Bea, who reads a passage from 'Whale' by Cheon Myeong-kwan. Bea sits on a rock and wears a pink dress as she narrates main character Geumbok's first encounter with a blue whale—"an unbelievably large fish in the vast ocean that was dozens of times wider and larger than the village reservoir". You can almost taste the salt water at points. Light also bounces off water on Bea's face, complementing the book's marine reverie. As well as moments of awe and wonder (her eyes widen in tandem with Geumbok's), she nails the melancholy that follows all-too brief delights.
