This moody promo for Skepta's latest track 'All Alone' explores the grim reality behind the often sensationalised world of drug dealing. Up and coming singer-songwriter Dré Six provides silky, R'n'B style vocals for the song's mournful chorus, which talks about being a long way from home... and feeling even further away from those you love.
Director Duncan Loudon's sparse promo is an enthralling mood piece, taking the viewer into the busy kitchen and battered living room of a house constantly occupied by those buying and selling substances. The only people we see clearly are the artists, with others depicted as stop-motion shadows flitting in and out of time and space.
It's a thoughtful and evocative way to sketch a transient, tough lifestyle in broad strokes - focusing on the isolation and hollowness which the characters feel as a result of their profession. Neither playing up the danger of the depicted world nor glorying in its potential fortunes, it's a really sensitive exploration of the things people will put themselves though in order to 'make it'... whatever that means to them.
