Silent treatment.
by Andrew MacGregor

Jonny Freeman and Ava Marter play a father and daughter who need a festive reset. The two are at loggerheads throughout Emma Miranda Moore's short film, with closed doors, cold shoulders, and chunky headphones making genuine communication almost impossible.

As the New Year draws closer, the gap between the two grows larger. Every movement is a retreat, and every roll of the eyes makes Auld Lang Syne's "cup of kindness" sound like a pipe dream. Still, all it takes is one small gesture to turn everything around.

When it does come, Moore, Freeman, and Marter nail the tender swirl of emotions that accompany reconciliation. The brief look of confusion on Dad's face before happiness takes hold is priceless.
