Ghostly Grief | |

The debate about AI's purpose in the creative world remains a hot one, as the bots learn and change via more people plugging in questions and challenges. Visually, verbally, and textually, there's no denying that regardless of how we feel about them... the quasi-sentient thinking machines are here to stay. This short film offers an interesting experiment when it comes to one program's creative capabilities, as it's generated in its entirety via AI. What this proves, or at least gestures towards, is that there's truly no substitute for a soul when it comes to making meaningful work. The visual images are as slightly borked and uncanny as one can still expect from such generators, while the script clearly has more human involvement. It seems to have substance on the surface (and there's no question about its intriguing experimental nature), but it soon becomes evident that whatever ghosts may be in the machine... they're not feeling anything real yet.
