Loving Laughs
by Syd Briscoe

There's a specifically Irish style of banter which strikes fear into the heart of anyone who's never had the pleasure of being lovingly roasted by someone from the Emerald Isle. No matter what you do, how sincere you are, or how reverent the topic is meant to be, Irish people will mercilessly rip the piss out of you for quite literally anything... as long as they care about you.

That energy is harnessed in this fun commercial for Rockshore, which offers a few examples of when such mockery may come into effect. A nickname earned from a brief foray into martial arts, relentless ribbing about overly bleached teeth, and an out of style wallet are all fair game for well intentioned ridicule.

Director Jeffrey Max gets the teasing vibe nailed down well here, with a piano playing figure offering a rendition of the Backstreet Boys' 'As Long As You Love Me' to bolster the humour. Don't be too precious about your feelings, the film suggests, just surrender yourself to the craic and have a pint about it.
