It's hard to make jokes about finances in the current climate, but Canada's popular Pizza Pizza chain pulls it off with aplomb in this amusing commercial. The 30" spot is a spoof of various types of low-budget mortgage and insurance ads, complete with onscreen graphics emphasising the chain's commitment to providing a "fixed-rate" price for their pies in 2023. Director Matt Atkinson demonstrates an astute understanding of what audiences expect from such ads here, as wooden acting and inexplicable leaps of logic (cheap pizza enabling one young man to focus on his future) are presented with gusto. There's an extra laugh hidden for eagle-eyed viewers at the end too, as the promised terms and conditions specify that those afflicted by "crust lust, mushroom munchies, and pineapple anxiety" are still included in the brand's offer.
