To Shave or Not To Shave | |

Shaving takes on a Shakespearian dimension in this amusing commercial for the Philips Oneblade. A man is tormented by his options thanks to the versatility of the advertised device, tortured by different reflections attempting to influence his facial hair grooming decisions. The majority of the film is shot in dramatic black and white, taking place on a stage in order to add further theatricality to its heightened action. They aren't quite three witches, but there's certainly an uncannily supernatural aspect to the main character's whispering mirror images. This makes it funnier when the reality of the man's situation is revealed, as the scene becomes suddenly mundane while his partner judges him for being so dramatic about something trivial. It's entertaining work which elevates a relatable moment in funny fashion, bringing some narrative spectacle to an everyday decision.
