Tactical retreat.
by Andrew MacGregor

This adorable commercial for NRMA Insurance sees a dinky car take matters into its own, erm, wheels when a hail storm looms. Rather than wait for its owner to come back, it drives off to find shelter in whatever garage, alley, nook, or cranny it can find.

Other sentient cars have the same idea, which forces our hero to brave areas marked 'No Parking—Private Property'. It almost fits into a construction site, but not enough to avoid a whopper of a hailstone that crashes onto the roof (it's hard not to wince as it lands).

Thanks to the light touch of director Steve Rogers, it's easy to cheer when the car makes it to safety, just as hailfire—colder and harder than hellfire—rains down on the streets. Driverless cars may reach this level of competence and likeability one day, but we doubt the advertised insurers need to worry. Classy bunch that they are, they say: "Until then, we’ll be there to help."
