This is a heist movie. A little girl and her dad, assisted by an animated creature living in the advertised shop, are determined to get their hands on a telescope so the little girl can feed her astronomy habit. Each of their attempts fall foul of diligent shop worker until she finally relents after being outwitted and hands over the expensive piece of equipment without receiving any payment.

Okay, okay, that's not how we're supposed to interpret this. It is, of course, an incredibly sweet tale of a child doing her utmost to be gracious about her father's inability to buy her what she wants. The various efforts to secure it for her by the animated character are enterprising and full of comic value, and it aggregates into a wholesome Christmas message that has absolutely nothing to do with shoplifting.
