Mansion Mystery
by Syd Briscoe

Pedro Pascal seems to be everywhere at the moment, whether he's breaking hearts on zombie hit The Last of Us or sweating while answering questions on YouTube chat sensation Hot Ones. So it's a nice surprise to see him pop up in this twisty commercial for Merge Mansion, playing a detective who's determined to crack a tricky case.

Pascal clearly has tons of fun with the role here, drawing on his roots in smuggler drama Narcos to portray the caricature of a grizzled gumshoe. There's intrigue aplenty in the Knives Out-esque murder at hand - not least that it seems to have been committed by a deadly grandmother (previously embodied by Kathy Bates).

Director Martin Werner has pitched the faux movie trailer just right, with nods to the true crime podcasting trend and winks at procedural drama tropes (a wall of evidence, the detective randomly eating out of a take-out container at the crime scene) bound to intrigue fans of both genres. It's a shame the attached game is repetitive rubbish, but this will make plenty want to check that out for themselves.
