'Raise Your Arches'

How about brow?
by Andrew MacGregor

There have been many office-based McDonald’s ads over the years, with strangers trapped in lifts, managers in wedding dresses, and heads popping up from cubicles.

But this 60" commercial from director Edgar Wright is the most ambitious yet.

It's all in the eyebrows, as two hungry colleagues trigger a mass exodus at lunchtime. Even the most committed desk jockeys are won over by raised eyebrows that say, "Fancy a McDonald's?", though one killjoy supervisor is forced to play catch-up.

A packed office like this feels like a blast from the past (OK, early 2020), but Edgar Wright's capable handling of a neat idea from Leo Burnett is handled with such aplomb that there's ne'ery a thought of any pandemics we could mention.

It seems amazing that raised eyebrows as a facial representation of the golden arches hasn't been done before... but it hasn't, and- now that it has been done - you can picture it being echoed in offices up and down the land as colleagues try to draw one another for a cheeky cheeseburger.
