Hybrid thrills.
by Andrew MacGregor

When James Bond, Ethan Hunt, or Courtland Gentry (Ryan Gosling's character in 'The Gray Man', if you can believe it) are busy, you get the star of this Lexus RX commercial. Too busy for introductions, he's a suave son of a gun who can adjust his suit and pick up a briefcase like the best of them. Oh, and he knows how to make a quick getaway.

Pursued by three baddies who love villainy as much as the colour black, the protagonist hits the road in his electric SUV. This is where the ad goes full 'No Time to Die', with a high-speed pursuit chock-full of advanced manoeuvre, tight corners, and cobbled streets. Good use of a medieval porticullis, too.

Director Mark Jenkinson knows how to put a car through its paces and he does so with real panache here. We doubt Suave Man will get his own franchise out of this, but it will be interesting to see if big-budget blockbusters lean into electric vehicles more often.
