Kylie Minogue is resplendent in red in this artsy promo for latest single 'Padam Padam'. Shot by Sophie Muller and cinematographer Steven Chivers, it's a great example of how a solid understanding of an artist's aesthetic can be an invaluable asset when creating a music video. This is pure Kylie in every aspect - from the OTT costuming and targeted lighting ensuring the singer is always the unquestionable star of the show, to the camp choreography which offers a modern spin on familiar ballroom moves. The curated locations are spot on too, making the artist and associates feel like aliens against the faded looks of a junkyard, motel, and diner. Music-wise it's also Kylie by numbers - disco tinged, heartbeat focused, and ready to soundtrack the first flush of love at a gay club. That's not a bad thing: as an enduring career and veritable camp icon status demonstrates, one doesn't always need to reinvent the wheel to keep an audience clamouring for more.
