When asked to describe perennial Irish cryptid Hozier, the average fan might not highlight his live performances. The singer is known for his acoustic work more than anything else, the quiet strains of which seem like they may not translate to sold out shows in massive arenas. That assessment may change, however, after viewing the straight-shooting, powerful promo for 'Francesca'. Director Anthony Byrne takes an old-school approach and highlights the transportive energy of Hozier when backed by a full live band - all crunchy guitars, driving drums, and charismatic stage presence. Bold lighting choices make it feel like there's a storm both in and outside the performance space, with crashes of visual thunder inexorably capturing the viewer's attention. Despite controversy over ticket sales, this film suggests the artist's current tour isn't one to be missed.
