Halsey
'Lilith (ft. Suga)'
5 June 2023 3 mins

Major game releases are now multimedia, multi-project affairs, and the long-awaited launch of Diablo IV is no exception. The highly anticipated game has received a pop anthem in 'Lilith', which reunites Halsey and BTS rapper Suga, who have previously collaborated on the latter's 'Boy With Luv'.

It's a surprisingly dark piece of work, even considering the associated game's monster-murdering content. There are none of the bombastic choruses or triumphant musical swells one might expect from such a tie-in, with lyrics which focus on getting caught up in the moment and ruining relationships as a result of not paying attention.

The visuals from director Henry Hobson are focused on Diablo's aesthetic, with both artists strutting around in capes and Halsey collecting plenty of bloody wounds along the way. It's an unexpectedly nuanced outing, suggesting that perhaps the future of movie and game musical tie-ins is heading towards something less gimmicky and more worth paying attention to.
