Love and chilli sauce. | |

Two brothers adjust to life-changing circumstances in this tender Guide Dogs ad. Like so many siblings, the two love to prank each other, whether it's a glass of water laced with chilli sauce or a drenched slice of toast. When one of the boys loses his sight, the dynamic changes drastically for a while at least. One watches the other practice with cutting food and using a cane in the back garden—a far cry from the games they used to play together. Yet the observer's initial uncertainty gives way to curiosity and then pride that lasts well into adulthood. This is when the king of the chilli sauce prank returns. The result frames visual impairment as a learning process for everyone involved. Thanks to the advertised charity, sight loss doesn't mean the person is lost—a point made so well in the final scene as grown-ups become kids again and the film comes full circle.
