Clocking in at just over ten minutes, 'The Teacher' is the longest track perennial rock uncles the Foo Fighters have ever recorded. The accompanying promo is a fittingly epic effort from director Tony Oursler, who uses a mixed-media approach to take viewers on a whirlwind trip through the band's storied career. It's a touching piece of work for contextual reasons too, as it follows both the death of frontman Dave Grohl's mother, and the untimely passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins. There are glimpses of both shown in home movie footage throughout the piece - flashes of tour stops and backstage malarkey which reminds fans of the good times which were abruptly brought to an end. Psychedelic flairs throughout the piece hint towards a deeper spiritual meaning, although its overall message beyond angular symbolism and a significant shot of an ouroboros is left up to the viewer to interpret. This is intriguing work, and should provide a sense of nostalgic catharsis for fans who've been with the group since the beginning.
