Coca-Cola has a grand tradition to live up to when it comes to Christmas, being largely responsible for the way we view Santa Claus (thanks to the lovey artwork of Haddon Sundblom in the 1930s). Their 2023 contribution to their advertising canon is a beauty. It starts by depicting urban scenes that are literally awash with Santas. Every which way you look, there's another Santa. DAVID was fooled into thinking that this spectacle was the heart of the commercial, but this is not the case. Having established the idea that anyone can be Santa, the second half of the film strips away the Santa costumes and, in the most heart-warming fashion possible, shows how each of us can embody the spirit of generosity and kindness represented by Santa Claus.
