Never having fallen prey to the appeal of 'Game of Thrones', DAVID was unaffected by its notoriously disappointing conclusion, but – like a lot of people who didn't watch it – he was painfully aware of how the underwhelming denouement made people feel, because they wouldn't stop going on about it. This commercial for French content provider Canal+ taps into the hype which surrounds a massive TV programme as it approaches a climax developed over several seasons... and, we suspect, the aforementioned fantasy show was very much in the minds of those who wrote it. Director Antoine Bardou-Jacque perfectly captures the obsessive nature of modern fandom, and injects some beautiful humour into a depiction of their escalating interest. The desperation of the fans when they realise they've been let down by the creators of 'The Secret of Wakany' is something to behold, and, even if you find it relatable, you'll nonetheless be laughing at the creaking armour of the cosplaying fans protesting on their sofas. It's quite a daring approach as it acknowledges that sometimes fans invest in a programme that ultimately disappoints... not something you'd necessarily expect to hear from a business dependent on persuading people to watch, but it's truthful and it's funny, so seems worth the risk.
