Disney classic 'Lady and the Tramp' gets a twenty-first century update in this curious film from Barilla. The nostalgic Italian effort follows a couple on a night out who attend a restaurant for an unconventional dinner, taking their meal not in the dining room but the back alley behind the eatery, while the workers inside secretly conspire to facilitate their first kiss. It's a weird conceit, particularly because it takes the current cultural obsession with nostalgia to an extreme degree. If you haven't watched 'Lady and the Tramp' (which came out in 1955) then the whole premise is totally lost, because the original characters' strange date is explained entirely by them being dogs. Perhaps we should consider coming up with something original rather that cack-handedly mining the past for content, at some point.
