Michael Ward ('Blue Story', 'Empire of Light') won the BAFTA Rising Star award in 2020, just weeks before Covid-19 ran roughshod over film, television, and games. It caused many young people to put their dreams on hold, but Ward is ready to jumpstart the process. Directed by Jeaniq Amihyia, this ninety-second film crackles with energy as the next generation of talent takes shape. There's Nathalie, a young woman enthralled by lighting; Sophie, a gifted game developer who knows when to ask for help; and Joshua, a hair stylist whose persistence has paid off. Ward likes what he sees (and what the latter does to his hair), just as a crew member almost drops a BAFTA on the floor. He'll come good though—even with those gloves on, maybe all the static electricity in this commercial took him by surprise!
