This Age UK ad starts with a burst of 'Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy' by The Tams, courtesy of an older gent who turns on the radio. As he buffs his shoes with a smile on his face, we're introduced to the other cheery cast members: a man on the bus and a woman on the phone. The tone changes when the first man’s power goes off. Almost paralysed by what's happened, he sits in his armchair with only silence for company. Loneliness spreads to the other characters, as one becomes the last passenger on the bus and other shivers rather than speaks into the receiver. All three represent the threat posed by the cost of living crisis, with older people forced to endure long, cold days and nights alone. The advertised charity aim to offer comfort and practical advice through their helpline, though they also want out-of-touch energy companies to play their part.
