Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle | |
by Syd Briscoe | |

If DAVID had a pound for every press release which passed through his inbox littered with the terms 'sustainable', 'eco-friendly', and 'for the planet'... well, he'd have considerably more pounds than he does now. Zurich Insurance jump on the planet-focused bandwagon with their latest commercial, which is comprised of recycled footage in an effort to reduce the carbon footprint generated by its production. Rather than create something new, it aims to increase the lifespan of existing content and cause less environmental damage than shooting a new ad. The result is... fine. It's a perfectly inoffensive, generic piece of work which depicts newborn babies, wholesome families, and couples going about their business. It could be a commercial for anything, which raises questions about whether the recycled content concept will work for any brand wishing to cut through the noise.
