'Mr Ferguson'
7 November 2022 60s
Fresh Fantasy
by Syd Briscoe

A boy's sense of imagination is revived - quite literally - in this whimsical Canadian ad for Toys R Us. The film opens with the young lad seemingly no longer interested in the trappings of childhood, staring blankly into space until his mother figures out the source of his boredom: a giant and quickly expiring colourful rabbit which represents his imaginary friend, Mr Ferguson.

An amusing spoof on an emergency medical intervention follows, as a pair of fantasy paramedics quickly arrive to ply their trade. Rather than CPR and oxygen, the duo deliver battles between action figures, squirt the imaginary beast with water, and finally deploy a whoopie cushion to revive the boy's sense of wonder.
